Life is Art-Live it in Color

I am so grateful I live in a world with color and that my eyesight allows me to distinguish between all the of shades and tones of each color. Color is an important part of quilting, especially at the beginning–selecting fabrics that “play together well” insures a winner. Color is a very broad far-reaching facetContinue reading “Life is Art-Live it in Color”

A Period of Hibernation

As much as I love the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, occasionally in December, I long for the feeling of hibernation that comes with January and February. We won’t be entertaining large groups, so the dining room table becomes our jig saw puzzle center. It is too cold to do much outside, soContinue reading “A Period of Hibernation”

Sort of like having a baby!

Having a three day Quilt Sale is very similar to having a baby! The new parents prepared for this momentous event for nine months–each year the quilters start preparing for the next Quilt Sale after the winter holidays — nine months before the sale. Many items must be purchased or borrowed before bringing baby home.Continue reading “Sort of like having a baby!”

Variety is the Spice of Life!

How often this fall have I heard folks say, “I love living here where there are four different seasons in a year because we have Autumn!” We may gripe about the freezing winds in January or the blistering heat in July, but most of us enjoy the variety in seasons. It is fun to visitContinue reading “Variety is the Spice of Life!”

It is all in the Attitude!

Isn’t attitude everything? Sunday night I was reviewing my upcoming week. Yuck, four events that I didn’t particularly look forward to doing. But then I looked at my schedule again differently. I am grateful we have dental insurance — one hour every six months that is covered with our insurance; probably shouldn’t complain. Six hoursContinue reading “It is all in the Attitude!”

The “Pros” of Volunteering

As advertised, every penny from our Quilts Etc Sale goes to two ministries at First United Methodist Church–the TV ministry and the Religious Nurture Center for disabled adults. I was explaining this to an out-of-state friend and they ask about the cost of supplies–donated! The hours and hours spent sewing and quilting–donated! I thought aboutContinue reading “The “Pros” of Volunteering”

New items for the Sale (but can buy them now!)

I had a “to do” list–but everything on the list did not get done. In fact, a lot of the list is still not marked off! House guests for the long weekend, house painters working, decorating and un-decorating tables for a mission lunch, another annual charity event to attend, regular volunteer commitments–I am sure youContinue reading “New items for the Sale (but can buy them now!)”

The Shoemaker’s Children

Are you familiar with the phrase “the shoemaker’s children have no shoes”? I heard my mother say this about acquaintances, but don’t remember exactly why. Maybe it was a neighbor who sold all the milk and eggs for cash but did not save any of the nutritious food for his family’s dinner. Or the coachContinue reading “The Shoemaker’s Children”

Pretty in Pink

Look what the hand quilters displayed in their room this week! Isn’t she a beauty? Of course the quilt is a “she”–so very feminine in pink and stitching that suggests lace. Paulette used the six hand cross stitched squares that Coila Ernest’s daughters gifted us after her passing. It was a puzzle –how to makeContinue reading “Pretty in Pink”
